MBARA Memorial Artificial Reef Program
The Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association has been constructing permanent artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico since l997.  More than 80 artificial reefs have been built to date.   Many of the artificial reefs constructed by the MBARA have been named for loved ones that have passed away.  The MBARA works closely with families to construct memorial reefs for those that wish to immortalize the memory of a loved one.   There are different types of memorial artificial reefs as well as different sizes that can fit many different individual needs.  The MBARA has constructed memorial artificial reefs containing the ashes of the loved ones.   Memorial reefs have also been deployed with permanently attached and inscribed bronze plaques.    Many families remember how much their loved one enjoyed days spent on the waters and beaches of the Gulf.  Building a memorial artificial reefs often allows families and friends to build an eternal monuments to their loved ones that will last for centuries and serve to enhance the Gulf?s marine environment.    The memorial artificial reefs are permanently placed on the MBARA website as well as incorporated into locally published nautical charts of the area.
